Anouncing AnyDAC 2.0

Hanover Park, IL, November 16, 2007. RemObjects Software, LLC and DA-SOFT Technologies are happy to announce their plans for a formal partnership in the release and future development of AnyDAC 2.0, the universal data access components.

AnyDAC is a set of components for CodeGear Delphi and the open source Free Pascal Compiler that provide high-speed native data access to a variety of back-end database engines, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 and others. Optimized for direct access to the respective database systems, AnyDAC can avoid unnecessary layers such as ADO, OLE DB or ODBC and provides the best possible access speeds. This makes AnyDAC the ideal solution for data access, especially in scenarios where high scalability and good performance are a must.

Why RemObjects Software?

As version 2.0 of the AnyDAC product matured, it became clear that the product would benefit from the experience of an existing company with a well-established product portfolio that fits the target market of AnyDAC, namely developers of sophisticated database solutions. RemObjects Software was chosen because its products form an ideal setting for AnyDAC to settle in as part of the product portfolio. AnyDAC will benefit from the existing infrastructure provided by RemObjects Software, both for development and customer support.

Why AnyDAC?

RemObjects Software chose to adopt AnyDAC for similar reasons, most importantly because it fits in well with the existing range of products the company is offering, and fills the last missing gap in their data access strategy. In the past, Data Abstract for Delphi provided an end-to-end solution for multi-tier database access, but relied on third party drivers or generic layers such as ADO and DBX for the back-end data access. AnyDAC closes this gap by providing an in-house solution for high-speed native data access at the back end, and deep integration of AnyDAC with Data Abstract will allow the two products to combine to the perfect data access solution for Delphi developers.

What is being Announced?

This announcement is preceding the formal product launch of AnyDAC 2.0 for Delphi, which is expected late this year and will provide more details about pricing and availability of the product, and time schedules for its release as part of RemObjects’ ROadmap. At this stage, we are announcing that AnyDAC is being rolled into the RemObjects Software product portfolio and will be released as RemObjects AnyDAC 2.0 for Delphi within the course of the next three months.

AnyDAC 2.0 is in private beta at this stage, and a more open beta program is expected later this year; please contact This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it for any inquiries.

What are the Intentions with the Existing Version 1.0 Product?

Version 1.0 Of AnyDAC, currently available as a free product, will be superseded by version 2.0; it will receive no further updates and not be actively supported. Professional users of AnyDAC are encouraged to migrate to version 2.0 for updates and support. Version 1.0 will of course continue to work indefinitely and be available in its current form from DA SOFT Technologies.

What are the Plans for ThinDAC?

ThinDAC, a simple multi-tier database layer built on top of AnyDAC, has been discontinued in favor of integrating AnyDAC with Data Abstract ‘Vinci’ for Delphi, the multi-tier database framework already available from RemObjects Software.

Data Abstract provides a cross-platform end-to-end solution for multi-tier data access needs, and it was felt that maintaining both products would distract the focus of the product teams unnecessarily without producing tangible benefit for our customers. Instead, the AnyDAC development team will focus on its core task – advancing native database access for the supported database back-ends – while the Data Abstract team continues to advance its multi-tier data access story.

Existing customers of ThinDAC 1.0 can of course continue using the product and will receive support through DA-SOFT, but we recommend that developers consider upgrading their solution to the combination of AnyDAC 2.0 and Data Abstract. To facilitate this move and ease the migration, we are offering a free upgrade to a 6-month subscription to Data Abstract (which includes RemObjects SDK) and AnyDAC for Delphi to all existing ThinDAC customers.

What Changes for Users of Data Abstract?

Nothing fundamentally changes for Data Abstract user, except that an additional option for data access is available through the AnyDAC driver that will be provided. Data Abstract will continue to support a wide and ever-increasing range of drivers based on third-party solutions, and the addition of AnyDAC to RemObjects Software’s product portfolio does not change the team’s commitment to support these different solutions for the back-end access. The new AnyDAC driver will of course be one of the recommended options for high performance database access from within Data Abstract.
